We are very happy to announce today that in the current issue 150/2018 of the club magazine "Unser Labrador" des LCD e.V. a double-page article by us was printed (unfortunately only in german).
We are very happy about this important step in the educational work on tricuspid valve dysplasia and would like to thank Mr. Calfa and Mr. Röhrig for the friendly contact.
We wish you and your fur noses a wonderful weekend and a magical pre-Christmas time.
On July 30 of this year, a magical little Labrador bitch made history.
Lottie was born with an atrial septal defect and tricuspid valve dysplasia. Her life expectancy was correspondingly poor. Her owners Pauline and Paul Daley, however, spared no expense and effort and put all their courage together and so, at the age of just 11 months, little Lottie underwent a double bypass open heart surgery.
Thanks to the great expertise of Dr Brockmann and Dr Bristow of the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals , little Lottie has survived this risky and groundbreaking operation well and is recovering noticeably.
The success of this operation is definitely a ray of hope for all affected dogs and their owners and will certainly save the lives of many other heart dogs in the future.
We are incredibly happy for and with Lottie and her owners and wish this little sweetie all the best and many happy and carefree years with her family.
If you would like to support the Daley family in bearing the costs of the operation, you are welcome to donate a few euros to Lotti: https://www.gofundme.com/heart-break-Lottie

Dear Labrador friends,
for a long time it was very quiet here, after Nevio - in the truest sense of the word Silvia's heartdog - had to be put down in March 2016 at the age of only 4 years and my heartdog Schröder suddenly lay dead in our trunk at the age of only 5 years after a walk on 25 April 2017.
Both Silvia and I try to live with the death of our dogs and the headwind that hit us from various sides again and again. We are looking forward - I with my second dog Artus and Silvia have let Luis, a very healthy young male (he had a heart ultrasound of course) into her life. Due to the loss of our heartdogs we were emotionally for quite a while no longer able to deal with the tricuspid valve dysplasia in an appropriate way. And then at some point life intervened and gave us new tasks. The heart theme took a back seat and will certainly continue to take a back seat for us personally. Nevertheless, the TVD and our initiative is and remains a matter of the heart that we have not let go of until today.
Silvia and I have put a lot of heart and soul into the homepage www.herzhunde.info. In 2013 we made an agreement with FERAGEN GmbH (Dr. Geretschläger) and later with TiHo Hannover (Prof. Distl) for the storage of blood samples and have been and still are in close contact with the Collegium Cardiologicum e.V. (Dr. Kresken, Dr. Kirsch). We were and are grateful and happy for the support we received from these and other sites.
Last week we received a message about our well-functioning network: The AKC Canine Health Foundation is funding a study on tricuspid valve dysplasia started at North Carolina State University in June this year. Chapeau. We are very grateful that we are no longer alone and are following the results more than eagerly from a distance.
We also immediately contacted DVM Kathryn Meurs as lead investigator of the study and DVM Diane Brown as CEO of the AKC Canine Health Foundation and promised them our full support for their study. The DNA from the blood samples we have already stored will be made available to DVM Meurs.
Sometimes heart issues come back to you by themselves and we are very excited about these great new developments. Even if at the same time old wounds open up again which we thought had already healed better.
If you are interested in the current study, you can read everything here:

If you have any questions about the content, you can contact us at any time - we are happy to explain and translate.
If you would like to make blood of your affected dog available for this study, please just get in touch with us.
We wish the clubs and breeders all the best - above all an open ear and a happy little hand. TD is inherited. Verifiable to all heart dogs.
We wish all heart dogs a happy and unrestricted life in the future.
We will of course keep you informed about the study.
Today we had to add another heartdog to our list of affected dogs. We thank the owner of Bugsy from the bottom of our hearts for her trust and support.
Bugsy, keep your pecker up! We wish you all the best and many magical, happy years with your family.
You can find all information about Bugsy on our list of affected dogs.
